Ablakwa clears 40-foot container of medical equipment for Surgical Theatre Project

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has successfully cleared a fully loaded 40-foot container of medical equipment shipped from the United States of America for the historic modern Surgical Theatre Project in his constituency.

The fully loaded 40-foot container of medical equipment was cleared on Saturday, 13th August 2022. According to the Lawmaker, installations of the equipment begin this week, ahead of the commissioning of the modern Surgical Theatre Project.

The Member of Parliament has lobbied for the construction of the first multi-purpose surgical theatre at the Tagadzi Polyclinic in 2020.

According to the MP, the multi-purpose surgical theatre when completed in August this year (2022) will house two theatre rooms, two offices for medical doctors, a nurses’ office, two recovery rooms, changing rooms and sanitary facilities.

He explained that, the facility is not only for the St. Anne’s Polyclinic in Tagadzi but for the entire Dorfor/Fodzoku/Volo/Torgorme enclave in his beloved constituency.

Construction of the project commenced in 2020 after funding was secured from the Spanish NGO, Manos Unidas following a joint proposal submitted by the office of the MP and the Keta/Akatsi Diocesan Development Office of the Catholic Church.

Manos Unidas has made available US$91,000.00 for the physical construction and the MP’s office is spending GH¢150,000.00 on medical equipment.

Ablakwa is excited that doctors say this project is going to manifestly address challenges with maternal mortality which now stands at 197/100,000 live births in the North Tongu District (2020 data); and also help with responding to casualties resulting from road traffic accidents.

“Absolutely delighted about what the partnership between my office, our chiefs, the Tagadzi/Atitekpoe communities on one hand and the Catholic Church on the other has achieved since we commissioned the St. Anne’s Polyclinic on June 10, 2015.” Ablakwa said.

He singled out Dr. Cham, his public health advisor extraordinaire and Dr. Nedzo for their outstanding commitment to health delivery in his beloved constituency.
