Government suspends majority of Agenda 111 projects, focuses on 35 facilities

  • Government suspends majority of Agenda 111 projects, focuses on 35 facilities

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that the government will significantly scale back the Agenda 111 hospital programme, with Cabinet approving the completion of only 35 projects for now while work on most of the remaining facilities is put on hold.

Addressing Parliament the Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said the decision followed a review of the nationwide initiative and was intended to ensure that limited state resources are directed toward projects that can be completed and brought into operation within a realistic timeframe.

The initiative Introduced under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was conceived to expand healthcare infrastructure by building hospitals in districts without such facilities, alongside regional and specialised health centres across the country.

The health minister told lawmakers that the government would now pursue a phased implementation strategy, concentrating first on the 35 selected projects identified as the most urgent and financially viable.

He said this approach would help prevent further expenditure on projects that are unlikely to be completed in the short term.

The Health Minister also announced plans to strengthen cooperation with the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), describing the organisation as a key partner in healthcare delivery.

He said the enhanced partnership would support efforts to improve access to quality medical services and reinforce the country’s health system.
