A report circulating on social media and attributed to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), claiming that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 deaths, is false.

The viral report, which has gained traction across several social media platforms, alleges that Ghana is battling a widespread Ebola outbreak resulting in thousands of infections and hundreds of fatalities. However, checks show that the claim is entirely unfounded.

There is no official confirmation from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Ministry of Health, or the World Health Organization (WHO) that Ghana has recorded an Ebola outbreak of such magnitude. Health authorities have not reported any figures remotely close to those being circulated online.

The misleading post appears to be part of a wave of misinformation exploiting public fears over infectious diseases.

Public health experts have repeatedly warned against sharing unverified health information, as it can cause unnecessary panic and undermine confidence in official health communication.

Ghanaians are urged to rely on updates from credible sources, including the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, for accurate information on disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.

The public is also encouraged to verify viral claims before sharing them and to report misleading health-related content to help curb the spread of misinformation.
