The Government has secured the lifting of Burkina Faso's restrictions on egg exports from Ghana and the importation of tomatoes following high-level talks between the two countries.

The breakthrough followed an engagement in Burkina Faso on Friday, July 17, led by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku.

In a joint statement, the two ministries said the outcome will boost bilateral trade and protect the interests of Ghanaian poultry and egg exporters, as well as tomato importers.

Burkina Faso had recently restricted egg exports from Ghana, particularly those originating from Dormaa, as a precautionary measure over quality concerns involving some exporting countries.

The two countries also agreed to establish a Joint Technical Committeeto address future trade issues promptly and work towards a Bilateral Trade Agreement to strengthen trade relations, reduce trade barriers and improve market access.

During the visit, Ghana also confirmed it would send a high-level delegation to this year'sInternational Arts and Crafts Trade Fair (SIAO) in Burkina Faso to showcase Made-in-Ghana products and services.

According to the statement, Ghana's exports to Burkina Faso increased from US$573 million in 2024 to US$637 million in 2025.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that trade between Ghana and Burkina Faso continues without unnecessary disruptions.
