New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for greater opportunities for Ghanaian youth, acknowledging the difficulties many face in finding jobs, starting businesses and securing a stable future.

In a message marking International Youth Day, Dr Bawumia said young Ghanaians share common aspirations despite coming from different backgrounds, including the desire to find decent work, build businesses and live with dignity.

These aspirations he noted have been challenged by the difficulty of securing jobs and the high cost of starting and sustaining businesses, which he said has left many young people uncertain about their future.

According to Dr Bawumia, Ghana’s young population remains one of the country’s greatest strengths, given the talent, determination and ambition demonstrated by young people across various sectors.

He said the responsibility of policymakers is to ensure that opportunities available to young people match their ambitions and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.

“Different contexts, common aspirations and a shared belief that Ghana can be a place where young people build the future they want,” Dr Bawumia said in the Facebook post made on Wednesday August 12.

He further stressed the need to maintain confidence in the ability of Ghanaian youth to shape the country’s future, despite the economic and employment challenges confronting them.
