Centre for Policy Development launches 2023 business & investment summit in Tamale

The Centre for Policy Development in collaboration with the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has launched the Northern trade, industrial and investment summit in Tamale with a call on investors and businesses to fully participate in the summit.

The summit is scheduled for 1st to 5th March 2023 at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama sports stadium. The five day summit will be organized under the theme: Improving trade industry and investment in northern Ghana through capacity building” will include a cultural durbar, a trade and exhibition fair, seminars and business awards night.

Mr Ismail Yahuza, the executive director of the Centre for Policy Development said the summit seeks to create a platform that would bring businesses together in a bid to develop their capacity in the various areas of trade and industry.

He therefore called on stakeholders in northern Ghana to support  summit to create opportunities to propel the growth of businesses in the area. He said trade was low in northern Ghana hence the conception of the idea of the summit to promote trade. The executive director of the Center for Policy Development commended the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Ghana Export Promotion Authority for partnering with the Centre and charges the media to promote the event.

Mr. Mathew Azoya, the Northern Region Director of GEPA, said the isummit falls in line with government strategy of creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth of the country. He commended CFD for initiating the summit, stressing that it compliments the mandate of GEPA of accelerating trade and promoting business development.

He revealed that in 2021 GEPA supported over 200 businesses and facilitated their registration with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) through the support of the Mastercard foundation. He appealed to investors and businesses to use the summit as a platform to network and seek business partnerships and collaborations that will enhance trade promotion in northern Ghana.

Dr. Asabea Afua Asare, Chief Executive of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, appealed to small scale enterprises to collaborate with state agencies mandated to ensure products meet certification to meet national and international standard.

She said the GEPA was working with SMEs to ensure standardization of their products to meet national and global standards. She also commended the Centre for Policy Development for collaborating with GEPA to organize the summit, stressing that the summit will offer emerging opportunities for investors.

Mr Alhassan Shani Shaibu, the Northern Regional Minister who launched the summit said it will open investment opportunities in northern Ghana to potential investors in across the country and globally.  He reiterated his firm belief that northern Ghana abound with several investment opportunities. He said one of the areas investors can explore is the tourism sector. He thus called on the media to sell such investment opportunities to the rest of the world.
