Ghana, El Salvador and Georgia agree to cooperate in int’l political dev’t

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has held several meetings with her counterparts from Bangladesh – Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, St. Lucia – Alva Romanus Baptiste, Namibia – Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, The Bahamas – Fred Mitchell, Maldives – Abdulla Shahid and Kingdom of Tonga – Fekitamoeloa Katoa Utoikamanu on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Minister also met with her counterparts from Sierra Leone – Timothy Musa Kabba, Seychelles – Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Brunei Darussalam – Erywan Bin Yusof, Botswana – Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Cyprus – Dr. Constantinos Kombos and Grenada – Joseph Andall.

During the meetings, Ms Botchwey and her counterparts discussed matters of mutual interest and strengthening cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, agriculture and education.

The Minister underscored the need for countries to foster strong bilateral relations in the face of the current economic and climate challenges. The discussions also focused on the future of the Commonwealth.

Subsequently, Ms Botchwey signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the Foreign Ministers of El Salvador, Alexandra Hill Tinoco and Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili on political consultations in the areas of regional and international issues, international political development as well as issues of common interest.

The signed agreements form the building blocks for cooperation between Ghana and El Salvador and Georgia, respectively.
