If you think you deserve 2nd term, why temper with voter album? – Yendi MP asked

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Yendi Constituency, Lawyer Alhassan Fatawu Jofa wondering why the Member of Parliament for the area had to remove some names from the party’s voters album if he thinks he has worked to deserve a second term.

Lawyer Jofa who was the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Yendi Constituency in 2020 said this when he granted exclusively interview on radio Tamale’s Bugum Beni hosted yesterday Tuesday, May 16.

“People were bussed from all over the including Ashaiman and Agbogboloshie to Yendi to register for the 2020 elections.  We tried to stop it but failed. And that resulted in the increase in NPP’s votes in both parliamentary and presidential elections. These were strange votes. And ever since he won, he has not been able to step foot in Ashaiman. He lied to them. And they expected some benefits only to be disappointed thereafter. So the wide margin were as a results of this. But we have devised a way to end it”, he told the host.

“When they were to go for the NPP constituency executive elections, he had to use force to change name in their voter album. Because he is not sure of winning the next parliamentary primaries. And if he thinks he has worked so much, why temper with the voter album?”, lawyer Jofa asked.

“The insecurity is too much. Last year somewhere August, there was a curfew. Yaa-Naa had to issue a fiat ordering that everyone should be indoors by 9 p.m. The MP has never commented on it in parliament even once. We were expecting him to raise it at the national level in parliament to draw government’s attention to it”, lawyer Jofa said.

He also accused the MP who doubles as chairman of Muslims caucus in parliament for what he described as “total silence” on the recent killings in the Yendi Constituency claiming three (3) lives of the  local residents.

According to him, it was for the intervention of the King of Dagbon l, Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II that helped arrest the situation, saying it would have been a disaster.

“The steps that were taken to curb the situation were mostly by the king of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari. He spearheaded everything. The MP reacted because of the accusations from the people. He was totally silent on the matter.  Till date, it is still happening”, he said.

In April this year, it was widely reported that robbers gunned down three (3) in Yendi municipality in three (3) separate incident within two (2) weeks.

The names of the deceased were Abdallah Ussif, Businessman, Mr Mohammed China Man, Hunter and Bawa Toyibu Fusheini, a student.

They were killed at separate location at the outskirts of Yendi town.

The incidents happened between the hours of 8pm and 12am along Tamale – Yendistretch and Yendi airstrip on theYendi-Bimbilla road.
