Soldier attacks sub-chief at Yaa-Naa’s palace, injuring him instantly

Chief of Sakpaba, a suburb of Yendi Municipal, Naa Bawa Mahama has been hospitalized following an attack by a military officer who invaded the Yaa Naa’s palace.

Narrating the incident to radiotamaleonline.com, some military officers appeared at the settlement within the Gbewaa palace in the Yendi municipality and began unloading firewood belonging to the community members into their military vehicles.

As residents close to the act tried approaching them with the caution that the items were for sale and for that matter must be paid for, this did not go down well with the officers.

Speaking to the media at a news briefing at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, the family of the Sakpaba Naa described the action of the military as a “total abuse of power”.

According to close sources, the group of military officers were angered by the approach and suddenly began whipping all residents around the scene, some decided to seek refuge at the Ya Naa’s palace but it never stopped the soldiers but rather aggravated the situation, as one of the soldiers shoved the aged chief to the ground leading to an instant collapse.

While addressing the matter, the overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, requested an identification parade to be conducted for the victim to point out to the particular officers responsible for the act meted out at the Sakpaba, one of the identified officers pounced on the victim again and lashing him to the floor and rendering him motionless.

He was immediately rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention and checks at the hospital confirm that the chief is responding to treatment.
