Mion MP connects four more communities to national electricity grid to boost socio-economic development

The Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency in the Northern region, Musah Abdul Aziz Ayaba, has extended power coverage to four more communities in the area to boost socio-economic activities.  The MP said his contrition towards the socio-economic development in the constituency has been enormous despite being first timer MP who is barely two years into office. He says the Mion district consist of 172 communities and before he become Member of Parliament  for the area only twenty-nine (29) communities were connected to the electricity national grid. He noted that since he became the peoples representative in Parliament the number of communities has since triplicated. He said during his transition period as a parliamentary candidate for the governing NPP, he was able to connect Six (6) communities to the national power grid bringing the total number of communities to thirty Five (35).

The Mion lawmaker said he has fulfilled his promise to the people of Mion to extend electricity coverage to thirty (30) communities within two years under the rural electrification project.

The four beneficiary communities include Dombini, Joblajo No.1 and 2 and Tusung. The MP provided street lights for the four communities.

“When I made the pledge during the 2020 general elections campaign about this electrification project, many people doubted me. But here we are today to connect the electricity”, he told journalists.

Mr. Musah Abdul Aziz Ayaba said residents of the beneficiary communities, especially women who used to travel several kilometers to mill their grains in other communities will now have the luxury of milling their grains in the comfort of their communities.

The Member of Parliament commended President Akufo-Addo and the Energy Ministry for their support in fulfilling his promise to the people of Mion.

He noted that Joblajo No.1 and 2 have been voting massively for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for years but have been neglected until he became Member of Parliament and brought development to them and there was for the people to support the NPP.

Describing his development interventions as historic particularly in the Joblajo No.1 and 2 communities, he said he has provided the communities with a borehole and a 3-unit classroom block despite their strong support for the NDC.

He stressed his willingness to bring more developmental projects to the constituency and turn the area into NPP stronghold.

Mr. Mohammed Abubakari Naporo, NPP Mion constituency Organiser who accompanied during the tour of the communities commended the MP for bringing development to the area. He said the MP in 2021 facilitated the appointment of 30 constituents into the security services and other public sector employment.

The beneficiary communities expressed gratitude to the MP, stressing that the provision of electricity will improve socio-economic activities in the area and visibility at night.
