NDC Criticizes NPP’s Vice-Presidential Candidate Selection

The formal announcement of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sparked strong criticism from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to a statement by NDC General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, this move reflects a significant decline in leadership standards of the NPP under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Hon. Kwetey asserts that NAPO’s selection underscores the NPP’s shift away from core values such as integrity, trustworthiness, empathy, and competence.

Instead, the party is accused of prioritizing internal politics and appeasing specific factions over the country’s broader interests.

Despite expressing concerns over the NPP’s leadership choices, Mr. Kwetey emphasizes the need for robust opposition in a healthy democracy.

He contrasts the NPP’s ticket with the NDC’s own, highlighting former President John Mahama and Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as more experienced and principled leaders.

The former deputy Finance Minister also criticized Dr. Bawumia’s economic management record, describing his tenure as marked by unfulfilled promises and economic mismanagement.

Similarly, he condemned NAPO’s performance in the Education and Energy Ministries, citing increased challenges and mismanagement.

The statement calls for Ghanaians to support the NDC in the upcoming elections, portraying Mahama and Opoku-Agyemang as leaders with the moral character and integrity needed to steer the country out of its current challenges.
