Northern Trade Industry & Investment Summit visionary initiative ~ Bagbin

The speaker of Ghana’s parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin has described the Northern Trade Industry and Investment Summit as a “visionary initiative” to be used to unlock several potentials in Northern Region.

He made the remarks at a launch of the 2nd edition of the summit in Tamale, May 15, 2024 where he addressed the gathering as special guest of the event.

Northern Trade Industry and Investment Summit is a visionary initiative. And I want to call on all of you, those present and those who will not be able to make it to remain steadfast in our support to the summit and its objectives. The success of the inaugural summit of the Northern Trade Industry and Investment demonstrates unwavering commitment of the initiators and their collaborators in unlocking the boundless potentials of Northern Ghana, he said.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, for the tiredless efforts in bringing this together, once again, to discuss and explore more avenues for employment growth and development of this region. As we convene under the theme …, we are reminded of the potentials that lie within the five regions of the ecological zone, the speaker added.

The Centre for Policy Development (CPD) is the organizer of the summit, in collaboration with University for Development Studies, Northern Development Authority, Ghana Enterprises Agency, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Freezones Authority, Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Center, Ghana Tourism Authority and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council.

The objective of the summit is to identify and empower private sector for capacity building, production expansion, export and industry promotion and value addition to non-traditional export products.

It also aims to accelerate economic development, attract investment and creating employment and improving the livelihood of people in northern Ghana.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the Executive Director of the Center for Policy Development (CPD), Ismael Yahuza called on entrepreneurs in the northern sector to take advantage of the summit to market their businesses and also network with other stakeholders and share ideas in order to enhance their businesses.

He said this year’s summit is focus on building on the successes of last year’s, so as to have a better business industry in the northern sector.

Ishmael Yahuza admonished people in and outside the metropolis to patronize the wares displayed by various businesses, reiterating the need to network, learn and share business ideas and improve on them.

The five-day summit is on the theme: “Enhancing trade and in­dustry in Northern Ghana through capacity development and strategic investment”.
