Suspended NPP Yendi constituency elections to be held on Sunday May 1

The suspended Yendi constituency executive elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be held tomorrow Sunday, May 1, the leadership of the party has said.

The Northern Regional Executive committee of the NPP earlier suspended the elections originally slated for Thursday April 28.

The suspension followed a petition by some 123 aggrieved polling station executives whose names were removed from the polling station register.

The matter was initially taken to court but was later withdrawn and sent before an alternative Dispute Resolution Committee constituted by the regional executive committee.

But a statement released by the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu on Saturday April 30 after “the implementation of the roadmap agreed by all relevant stakeholders” that the elections should be held on “Sunday May 1, 2022 under the supervision of of the Yendi Constituency Elections Committee as well as the Electoral Commission of Ghana.”

We are by this communiqué, withdrawing from the upcoming constituency election which is slated for Sunday, 1st May 2022. Participating in this election will go against our earlier decision of not having anything to do with the compromised register. We therefore describe this said election as a Sham and cannot be part of it.
