Two Fake GNPC Officials Arrested At Nkwanta South

Police have arrested two men for posing as officials of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) at Nkwanta South of the Oti Region.

Richard Agbezuge, 34, and Jacob Lartey, 38, were arrested at the Bonakye checkpoint on Monday, June 16.

Reports indicate that they pretended to be checking the authenticity of oil and documents while extorting money and fuel from filling station owners.

They were successful in their operations at Alinco Filling Station, Max Energy Oil, and Star Oil, where they stole GHS200 cash each and GHS100 worth of fuel.

According to Police Prosecutor Detective Inspector Bright Nkansah, the filling station owners quickly contacted the Oti Regional GNPC after discovering the action.

The police subsequently arrested the men at the checkpoint when they were returning from Sibi-Kpassa at Nkwanta North in a rented Toyota Prado with registration number GR 154-15.

They were then arraigned at the Nkwanta Magistrate Court.

Richard Agbezuge and Jacob pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to a GHS 4,800 fine or a six-month jail term by the presiding judge, Joseph Evans Annang Okorokpa.

The two accused will also sign a bond to be good citizens for six months to deter others who take advantage of the innocent.
