Upsurge In Security Checkpoints At Assin North

There are reports Assin North is witnessing a proliferation of security checkpoints. The road barriers, if still in place on the day the by-election takes place, will then become double-edged swords. It could be protective, it could be intimidating.

What is not known is which voter strongholds in the constituency have the highest density of security checkpoints. One election watch in Ghana advised voters to attach seriousness to the by-election by moving quickly to polling stations to cast their ballots.

It said residents of Assin North must use the exercise to speak their voices with regard to their circumstances, and what they need to retain or discard. This can only be done if they overlook artificial inhibitions in their way and with a determination to go and vote.

A caveat by the Elections Authority that polls will close at 3 pm on the day has come under fire from critics who said the 5 pm deadline for all elections in Ghana ought to be maintained.
