Wa West MP donates to support quality healthcare delivery at Tanina

The Member of Parliament for Wa West constituency, Supt. (Rtd) Peter Lanchene Toobu, has donated 10, 000 cedis to supportquality healthcare delivery at Tanina, a community in the Wa West district of the Upper West region. The donation was part of efforts to support the building of a maternity ward at the community’s clinic provide leverage for pregnant women who hitherto would have to travel to Wa or Poyentanga for safe delivery.

The donation was made at an annual community durbar in Tanina during the National Health Insurance Scheme registration and renewal of cards of residents.

The lawmaker recounted to the people how the then Tanina health facility in the 80s and 90s contributed significantly to his upbringing hence the need to improve the healthcare delivery system in the community. He also donated a cash amount of Ghc1,000.00 to the Mother to Mother support women group.

He also pledged to use his portion of MPs Common Fund to help the community complete the facility and other development challenges in Tanina.

The cost of the uncompleted portion of the project is estimated at Ghc186,220.10.

 The Wa West district NHIS Manager, Rashid Tindogo, explained the need for the durbar and the importance of the NHIS card. He said the durbar offered opportunity for the scheme to under take mass registration of residents of the community who couldn’t have access to the scheme’s services owing to challenges beyond their control and also renew expired cards. He also added the durbar will enable the scheme resolve some mistakes on some cards that include wrongly spelt names and mismatched pictures.

 The Wa West District Director of Health Services called for concerted efforts in dealing with health related issues in the district of which community participation is paramount. He promised to make to the health of the people in the district a priority.

 The Wa West District Chief Executive, Vida Dioretey, on the occasion also supported the community with eight (8) street lights to improve security and visibility in the area. She called on the community to support the assembly in realizing its developmental goals.
