We’ll make ‘wonderful progress’ by electing Bawumia as President in 2024 – Former Interior Minister

Former Minister for the Interior in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, has praised the election of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s ability to drive economic development and growth in the country.

Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu described Dr Bawumia’s election as a pivotal moment that will catalyze significant progress in Ghana’s global economic standing. He emphasised the importance of embracing forward-thinking ideas, citing the success of digitalization in various sectors.

“The direction he is going, if he is allowed to lead this country, I do not doubt in my mind that we will witness wonderful progress in our economy. The quality of his ideas will move this country forward, and I do not doubt in my mind. If he goes on to win the 2024 elections, we will see significant improvements in our economic fortunes,” he remarked.

In the NPP’s recent presidential primary, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2024 general election. Dr. Bawumia secured 118,210 votes to win the election.

With this victory, Dr Bawumia is set to face ex-President John Dramani Mahama, who received the endorsement of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier in the year.

The 2024 election is anticipated to be a highly competitive contest between the NPP and the NDC, both aiming to break the historical trend of no party securing more than two consecutive terms under the Fourth Republic.
