We’re not hooligans, some of us qualified to be governor too – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has slammed the governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Ernest Addison over his reaction to the Occupy Bank of Ghana #OccupyBoG protest.

The governor in an interview with banking.com rejected calls for him to resign over mismanagement at the Central Bank which resulted in over 60 billion cedis losses.

Dr Addison questioned why the minority failed to use other channels to get their grievances across but paraded on the streets like hooligans.

Speaking to Starr News the former Power Minister, Dr Kwabena Donkor argued the governor should have taken responsibility for the mess the country’s economy is in rather than resort to insults.

“I believe the governor’s response is most unfortunate, yes we have avenues and it is our democratic right to choose which avenues as long as it is legitimate to use to express our concern,” the Pru East Member of Parliament stated.

He continued: “Yes, even though it was led by the Minority there was Civil Society Organization and other organizations involved and other trade unions involved. So if we choose to demonstrate within the requirement of the law. The least the governor could do was to receive our petition. And if there are circumstances he could not receive our petition he should not be insulting us.”

“We are not hooligans, some of us are qualified as he is, and others are even more qualified in their fields of endeavour. So it is most unfortunate that he is invading the real issues.

The ranking member for the Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and State-Owned Enterprises reminded Dr Addison his outfit will have to deal with Parliament moving forward.

He stated that the Bank of Ghana has performed abysmally in performing its functions.
