You’re either a ‘witch’ or ‘villager’ for insulting a world-recognized leader like Akufo-Addo

Those disrespecting and insulting President Nana Akufo-Addo vis-à-vis his fight against gamalsey are either “witches or villagers”, Okyenhene Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin II has said.

Addressing the congregation at St Mark Anglican Church at Kyebi recently, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II wondered why the youth would opt for galamsey instead of going to school when the president has made sure that senior high school was free for all.

He advised the youth that education rather than galamsey is what can sustain their lives since the GHS100 they are paid for illegal mining will not do them any good in the long run.

A time is coming, he advised, when even a bachelor’s degree can only guarantee a janitorial job, thus, the need for the youth to take their education seriously, instead of delving into galamsey, which, he noted, is controlled by big men who have no regard for the preservation of the environment.

He urged Ghanaians to appreciate President Akufo-Addo’s fight against galamsey instead of attacking him over it.

In his view, any well-cultured person will not rain insults on an elderly person, least of all, the president, like it has been happening, adding: “Unless you are a villager or witch”.

“One day, truth will overcome evil, lies and envy”, he noted.

As far as he is concerned, President Akufo-Addo has been celebrated across the world for his achievements and, thus, could not fathom why Ghanaians would rather insult him.

The traditional leader noted that if the country protects and manages the gold with which God has blessed the nation, Ghana would become an exemplary country and leader in the world.

He also blamed his fellow chiefs for taking bribes to endorse galamsey.

For instance, he said a chief who has never seen or held GH¢40,000 would easy collect that money and allow galamsey to go on in his jurisdiction.
