Bibiani Gold Stars coach Petros Koukouras had little to say about the football after Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Debibi United, and plenty to say about the ground it was played on.
“We cannot discuss football,” the Greek coach said. “I don’t think this is a pitch designated for football. Maybe it is designated for cassava plantation. I don’t have anything else to say.”
The result, in Matchday Seven of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League on October 18, pulled newly promoted Debibi United out of the relegation zone.
Koukouras had seen trouble coming. Before kickoff he told his players to prepare for a tight contest, pointing out that every visiting side had struggled at Debibi Presby Park. “We’ve seen that all the teams that have travelled to play there, they didn’t have an easy day,” he said.
Gold Stars arrived with momentum, fresh from a 2-0 win over Basake Holy Stars in Matchweek Six, in which Kwame Opoku scored both goals. The defeat stopped that run.
Their next assignment is a Matchweek Eight trip to face Heart of Lions at DUN’s Park.
