Kansas City’s unbeaten start to the NFL season ended in Seattle on Sunday night, as the Seahawks combined disciplined defending with an effective attack to claim a 20–3 victory.
The defeat left the Chiefs with five wins and one loss, while Seattle moved to four wins and three defeats after snapping a two-game losing run.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba provided the biggest receiving threat, catching nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. Emanuel Wilson complemented that performance on the ground, carrying 24 times for 100 yards and scoring Seattle’s final touchdown.
Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of his 28 passes for 257 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. His opposite number, Patrick Mahomes, struggled to generate momentum, finishing with 165 passing yards from 19 completions in 33 attempts. Mahomes threw one interception and no touchdown passes.
The gap between the teams extended beyond the scoreboard. Seattle gained 410 offensive yards against Kansas City’s 213 and recorded 24 first downs, compared with 11 for the visitors. The Chiefs managed only 50 rushing yards, limiting their options against a defence that consistently disrupted their progress.
Neither side scored in the opening quarter, but Seattle took control before halftime. A field goal put the hosts ahead before Darnold found Smith-Njigba for a 28-yard touchdown, helping establish a 10–0 advantage at the break.
Both teams added a field goal in the third quarter, leaving Kansas City trailing by ten points heading into the fourth.
Any remaining prospect of a Chiefs comeback disappeared when Wilson broke through for a 21-yard touchdown run with three minutes and 47 seconds remaining.
For Seattle, the result offered a convincing response to consecutive defeats. For Kansas City, an evening without a touchdown brought its winning start to an abrupt halt away from home.
