The Upper West Regional Police Command has intercepted a commercial vehicle transporting a large quantity of ammunition through an unauthorised route outside Wa, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

According to a police statement, the operation was carried out on Monday, 29 June. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 200 boxes of AA cartridges, containing a total of 50,000 rounds of ammunition, concealed beneath other goods.

The police identified the suspects as Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood and Alhaji Issahaku. They are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition and identify any other persons connected to its transportation.

The Regional Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and integrity.

It also assured residents of the Upper West Region of its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime and maintaining peace and security.

The police further appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts to combat crime and safeguard communities.
