Ghana cautions Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims over road travel to Senegal

  • Ghana cautions Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims over road travel to Senegal

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana embarking on pilgrimage to Senegal to exercise heightened caution in making their travel arrangements.

In a travel advisory dated August 21, the Ministry said Senegal remains safe for travellers but noted concerns over the security situation along certain road corridors leading to Dakar.

It said the concerns are particularly relevant to persons undertaking long-distance journeys by road.

The Ministry has therefore urged prospective travellers and pilgrims to consider air travel as the preferred, safe and secure means of transportation.

Those who have already begun making arrangements to travel by road have also been advised to reconsider their plans and opt for air travel.

“The Ministry urges the Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims as well as prospective travellers to adhere to this advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security,” the statement said.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry further assured that it remains committed to the welfare, safety and protection of Ghanaian nationals and will continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with relevant international partners.
