Eric Thinkler Calls for Mandatory Cooling Breaks In GPL Matches

  • Eric Thinkler Calls for Mandatory Cooling Breaks In GPL Matches

Kotoko head coach Eric Thinkler has called for the implementation of mandatory cooling breaks during Ghana Premier League matches.

The South African trainer revealed this during his post-match press conference after Kotoko drew 2-2 away to newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Debibi United, in the opening match week of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Thinkler believes the poor state of the playing surface, coupled with the hot temperatures, takes the beauty away from the games, as players cannot fully express themselves on the pitch. "The players' legs were dead, the pitch is heavy and thick," he said.

He believes the introduction of a mandatory cooling break will help keep players' energy levels up and improve the overall quality on the pitch.

Next up for the Porcupine Warriors is a home encounter against Hearts of Lions in match week two of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
