National Communications Authority (NCA) has cleared three companies to proceed in the country’s 5G spectrum licensing process, following an assessment of applications for frequencies in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands.

Scancom Plc, which operates as MTN Ghana; Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited, operating as Telecel Ghana and Goal Telecommunications Ltd have qualified for the next phase of the selection process.

The authority in a press release indicated it received four applications before the 27 August deadline. It said the applications underwent an eligibility review and technical qualification assessment under the technical and qualification submission stage.

The NCA said it had notified all applicants of its decision and provided reasons where applicable.

Only the three qualified companies will take part in Stage Three, where their Best Price Offers will be opened and ranked. The authority said it would separately inform the qualified applicants of the date, time and venue for that exercise.

The licensing process is expected to determine which operators secure spectrum to deploy next-generation mobile services, potentially expanding access to faster and more reliable digital connectivity in Ghana.
