Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George has opened discussions with France on increased investment in Ghana’s digital infrastructure as government seeks to expand access to affordable and reliable connectivity.

Sam George raised the need for stronger international investment in the telecommunications and digital sectors when he met the French Ambassador to Ghana, Diarra Dime-Labille.

The engagement focused on how Ghana can attract foreign direct investment to strengthen digital infrastructure while improving the quality and affordability of services available to consumers.

Sam George said digital expansion must take into account the economic circumstances of Ghanaians, particularly in relation to access to data and broadcasting services.

He also reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating a competitive and transparent environment for investors, saying such an environment would help attract investment and improve service delivery in the digital sector.

Beyond investment, the meeting addressed the growing challenge of digital disinformation, with Ghana and France exchanging views on possible areas of cooperation.

The two sides also discussed collaboration ahead of the Internet Governance Forum scheduled for November.

The engagement comes as Ghana seeks to deepen international partnerships around digital infrastructure and ensure that investment in the sector translates into wider access to digital services.
