He said the NLA was committed to ensuring that the national lottery delivers its fair value to the Ghanaian state, stressing that the lottery belongs to the people of Ghana.

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has presented a GH¢10 million cheque to the Consolidated Fund as part of efforts to increase the Authority’s contribution to national development.

The cheque was presented by the Director-General of the NLA, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, to the Minister for Finance at the Ministry of Finance on October 2, 2026.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Abdul-Salam said the payment was not merely a transfer of funds but an indication that ongoing reforms at the Authority were beginning to yield results.

He said the NLA was committed to ensuring that the national lottery delivers its fair value to the Ghanaian state, stressing that the lottery belongs to the people of Ghana.

According to the Director-General, the Authority has embarked on a comprehensive reform programme aimed at strengthening revenue mobilisation, improving transparency, and ensuring greater value for the state.

Among the measures, he said, is a review of the Authority’s commercial arrangements with private operators to ensure that revenue-sharing structures reflect international best practices and what he described as the State’s rightful position as owner and regulator of the national lottery.

The NLA is also moving towards an open and competitive licensing framework, which Mr. Abdul-Salam said would end exclusivity, attract more credible operators and broaden the Authority’s revenue base.

He further disclosed that the Authority was introducing independent, real-time revenue monitoring across all licensed channels to ensure that lottery transactions are visible, verifiable and properly accounted for.

The Director-General said the reforms were also creating new revenue streams for the Authority.

He announced that, in collaboration with the Ghana Sports Fund, preparations were underway to introduce the Sports Fortune Lotto, a dedicated daily draw expected to support sports development while contributing additional revenue to national development.

Mr. Abdul-Salam described the GH¢10 million payment as an early indication of the progress being made, expressing confidence that the Authority’s contribution to the national purse would increase significantly as the reforms mature.

He assured the Ministry of Finance that future contributions would be pursued in a manner that is transparent, sustainable, and accountable.

“Our target is not merely to meet expectations but to set a new standard for what a well-governed national lottery can deliver,” he said.

The NLA Director-General expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Finance for its support and guidance and called for continued backing as the Authority implements the remaining aspects of its reform programme.

The cheque presentation was made on behalf of the Board, Management and staff of the National Lottery Authority.
