The Ghana football association has appointed Kim Lars Björkegren as interim head coach of the Black Stars, handing the Black Queens coach responsibility for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Somalia.

The decision, taken in consultation with the ministry of sports and recreation, puts Björkegren in charge for the November fixtures while the search for a permanent head coach continues.

He will work alongside Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram as assistant coaches, with Fatawu Dauda handling goalkeeping duties.

For Björkegren, the appointment means taking on a different national team assignment from his role with the Black Queens. His immediate task is to prepare the men’s senior side for two qualifying matches under an arrangement limited to the November window.

The announcement does not make him the permanent Black Stars coach. Instead, it gives Ghana a technical team for the Somalia games as the FA continues the process of finding a longer-term appointment.

The temporary appointment separates Ghana’s immediate match preparations from the wider coaching search. With the November double-header approaching, Björkegren and his assistants now have a defined assignment: lead the team through those fixtures.

Beyond the coaching appointments, the information released provides no details on squad selection, the team’s reporting date or its training programme. It also gives no deadline for naming the permanent head coach.

For now, the focus turns to how Björkegren will organise his technical team and prepare Ghana for Somalia. The two matches will be his first assignment under this interim arrangement, with the FA’s decision on the permanent role still outstanding.

His mandate, as announced, covers November rather than a longer-term Black Stars appointment.
