The Special Task Force of the Northern Regional Police Command, Red Maria, has intercepted 170 parcels of suspected narcotic substances believed to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation.

Speaking to the media, the Deputy Northern Regional Crime Officer, ASP Richard Ackumey, said the parcels were seized on Monday, July 27, 2026, during a targeted operation by the task force.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes in the region, assuring the public that operations against drug peddlers would continue.

ASP Ackumey said the suspects, Godwin Yamegi, 32, and Seth Amekuse, 33, will be arraigned before the court after investigations are completed and the evidence gathered has been thoroughly reviewed.

He described the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the region as encouraging, noting that the Police continue to receive strong support from traditional authorities, opinion leaders and members of the public in tackling the menace.

ASP Ackumey also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the Police in their efforts to combat drug-related crimes across the region.
