“As an education-focused organization committed to quality, safe and inclusive learning for all children, School for Life strongly condemns this incident in its entirety,” the statement said.

Tamale, July 10, 2026 - Education-focused non-governmental organization School for Life has strongly condemned an armed incident that occurred at the Zohe E/P Primary and Junior High School in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region and has called for an immediate investigation and enhanced security measures to protect pupils, teachers, and staff.

In a press statement issued on Friday, the organization expressed concern over a viral video circulating on social media that allegedly captured two individuals wielding weapons and firing gunshots into the air on the school premises while academic activities were ongoing.

School for Life described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, emphasizing that schools must remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.

“As an education-focused organization committed to quality, safe and inclusive learning for all children, School for Life strongly condemns this incident in its entirety,” the statement said.

The organization urged the relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

School for Life also called on the Ghana Police Service to urgently deploy adequate security personnel to the school to guarantee the safety and protection of pupils, teachers, and other staff members.

According to the organization, incidents of violence within educational environments threaten the progress made in expanding access to education and could discourage school attendance, particularly in communities already facing challenges in retaining children in school.

“Education remains the surest pathway to fostering development and eradicating poverty in this country, particularly in Northern Ghana where many communities still struggle to access conducive learning environments,” the statement noted.

The organization warned that acts of intimidation and violence in schools undermine efforts by government, parents, educators, and development partners to improve educational outcomes and promote child welfare.

School for Life further expressed solidarity with the pupils, teachers, parents, and the wider Zohe community during this difficult period. It called on all stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Yendi Municipal Assembly, traditional authorities, and community members, to work together to ensure that schools remain secure environments for effective teaching and learning.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that every Ghanaian child deserves a safe and supportive learning environment free from fear, intimidation, and violence.
