Tamale, Oct. 26 – The Air Wives Organisation (AWO), in collaboration with the Air Force Base Tamale, has organised a breast cancer awareness programme at Bawa Barracks to encourage early detection and timely medical attention.
The programme formed part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month and was held on the theme: “Every Story Is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”
It educated participants on breast health, regular breast checks and the need to seek professional medical advice when they noticed unusual changes in their breasts.

Participants were encouraged to access breast health education and screening services and not allow fear, embarrassment or stigma to prevent them from seeking care.
The education highlighted the importance of early detection in breast cancer management and the need to avoid delays in reporting suspected abnormalities to health facilities.
The organisers called for sustained public education to help individuals understand breast cancer, recognise possible warning signs and make informed decisions about their health.
They urged participants to share the knowledge gained with their families, friends and community members to extend awareness beyond the programme.

The organisers also appealed for compassion and support for people diagnosed with breast cancer, noting that each person’s experience was different and required understanding throughout diagnosis and treatment.
They said the theme underscored the need to respect the individual experiences of affected persons while supporting them to access appropriate care.
The programme ended with a call on participants to prioritise their breast health and encourage others to seek medical attention whenever they noticed unusual changes.
