Three suspected members of a robbery gang have been shot dead in a police operation, while another has been arrested in connection with the theft of GH¢430,000 from two Mobile Money vendors at the Buipe Cattle Market in the Savannah Region.
In a Faceboook post on Friday August 21 the police said the incident occurred on June 29, 2026, when four armed men allegedly attacked the vendors and made away with the money after firing sporadically. The suspects were reportedly armed with two pump-action guns, a single-barrel gun and an AK-47 assault rifle.

Following the robbery, the Inspector-General of Police deployed the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit to assist the Savannah Regional Police Command with investigations into the case.
A 28-year-old suspect, identified as Yacouba Oumar, was arrested at Soronuase in the Bono East Region on July 23 following sustained surveillance by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate, with support from the Kintampo Divisional Police Command.
According to the police, Oumar admitted participating in the robbery and identified three alleged accomplices as Yakubu Seidu alias Baba, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya alias Addo and Abduli Buipe alias Addo.
The police said further investigations led officers to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo and Dawadawa, where some members of the gang and weapons believed to have been used in the robbery were suspected to be hiding.

An exchange of gunfire subsequently occurred between the police and the suspects, resulting in the deaths of Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya and Oumaro Amadu.
The bodies of the three suspects have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The police also recovered one pump-action gun with five live BB cartridges and a single-barrel gun believed to have been used during the robbery.
The arrested suspect, Yacouba Oumar, remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
The police are also pursuing an alleged mastermind identified as Alhaji Yacouba, also known as Masaji, Muimen or Yakubu, whom investigators say contracted the group to carry out the robbery.
Efforts are underway to arrest him and other persons suspected to be connected to the GH¢430,000 robbery.
